This page contains information to help you plan your visit to Southmede Cottage, and describes the layout of the cottage so any mobility or vision aspects can be considered. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to ask.
A description of the cottage facilities can be found on the main page for Southmede Cottage.
There are two steps down and one step up to the main door or a path to the side with one step up. Once inside the cottage everything is on the same level.
The nearest train station is at Alnmouth where you can hire a taxi or catch a bus that will drop you at Beal Bank and then a short walk to Southmede Cottage (there is a sign at the end of the drive).
Parking is on site directly outside of the cottage. The only other people to use the drive are ourselves, the post delivery or local trades people coming to the cottage at our request.
The lighting is good and you park on a level gravel base directly by the cottage. There is dusk to dawn lighting at the front door and by the side wall to the cottage.
The cottage is heated by a combination boiler which is fully serviced on an annual basis. There are two easy chairs and a table and chairs for dining. To one side of the main living area is the open plan kitchen which is fitted with floor and wall units, cooker, fridge and microwave. There is a door off the main room to the bathroom which has a corner bath, toilet, and wash basin and a separate walk-in shower cubicle with shower. There is a second door off the main room that leads to the bedroom were you will find a king size bed and a built in wardrobe and freestanding dressing table drawers, chair and mirror.
You will find a small general shop in Warkworth and three small supermarkets and other shops in Amble which is approximately 1 mile away.
Most of the large supermarkets now offer an online delivery service, and Southmede Cottage is included in the delivery area.
